Gauteng Department of Economic development GDED and GGA hosted a Transport and Security meeting on 20 October 2016 which was fairly well attended taking into consideration that it is the busy season for tourist guides.
The meeting was directed by an ever so witty and talkative Anthony Paton and made the meeting interesting.
- The first speaker was Mr Alex Malapane ,Manager: Knowledge Management & Research Safety & Security in Gauteng Tourism Business Council of SA gave an explanation on how the TSI works and how important it is to report any security incident that happens to tourist so a comprehensive database could be established to try and be proactive in planning. - Mr Percy Kolotsi Assistant Director: Provincial Regulatory Entities & Municipal Regulatory, Department of Transport narrated a presentation on the new legislation that have been introduced on the 29July 2016 whereby Tour operators need to be accredited and then the vehicles under their accreditation being permitted (click here for presentation) Dedicated article on applying for NPTR accreditation can be found on this link with application forms for download. The meeting was ended with a great lunch hosted in the Furious restaurant at the Turffontein racecourse .
